We’re excited to welcome Sierra to the Bike Walk Macon team. Read our interview below to find out more about her new role and what she’s most excited for!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a Macon native with a passion for community, education, and advocacy!

What will you be doing at Bike Walk Macon?

I will be working as the Events and Outreach Coordinator. I’ll be working on continued favorites like Open Streets and Macon Bike Party as well as new events, like our upcoming Traffic Skills 101 opportunity and Bike to the Movies!

What’s your favorite thing about Macon?

My favorite thing about Macon is that you don't have to be "someone" to become someone in Macon. You can come to a place like Macon, get involved, and find your passion. If there isn't a group that caters to your interests, you can start one and likely find others that share your passion.  I also like that members of our community are working to make Macon a more welcoming, inclusive city that provides avenues for prosperity across ethnic and socioeconomic lines.

What type of bike do you have?

I'm so excited to talk about this. I am currently riding an Orange Momentum iWant Park, thanks to Bobby at Bike Tech! I've been riding a Schwinn Beach Cruiser for the past 2 years but found it to be less than enjoyable for longer distance rides and hilly areas. My iWant Park is a perfect daily commuter bike, and makes riding a joy! I look forward to riding it and thanks to my work at Bike Walk Macon, have found a new hobby.

What are you excited about as you get started in this role?

I am excited to learn more about community and to positively impact my community in a tangible way.  By increasing the number of people biking and walking in a community we reduce traffic, promote public health, and positively impact the environment. However, what I find most important is that by advocating for safer biking and walking in communities, we are also opening doors and providing avenues to prosperity for individuals in our community that rely on biking, walking, and public transit. I am also excited to reconnect with my community while improving my own health and hope to inspire others to do the same.

Welcome, Sierra! Be sure to check out our Events page to see how you can get involved.
