Bike Walk Macon is pleased to announce it has received a $68,017.64 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).

The grant will help finance efforts to develop and execute educational programs that expand and promote bicycle and pedestrian safety to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle fatalities, injuries, and crash rates in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia.

“The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety continues to work with state and local agencies to develop innovative projects and campaigns that are designed to save lives and protect everyone traveling on Georgia’ s roads and highways,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “We remind all drivers that following the rules of the road not only helps save your life but also helps to make sure others make it home safely to their families as well.”

“We’re grateful to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its continued investment in bicycle and pedestrian safety,” said Kaylee Pruitt, Executive Director of Bike Walk Macon. “This funding allows us to expand education and outreach across Macon-Bibb County, helping people of all ages build the knowledge and skills to navigate our streets safely. By investing in education and promoting safer behaviors for everyone on the road, we’re working toward a community where walking and biking are safe, accessible options for everyday life.”

The grant year for this award will be October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027.
