Over the past year, Open Streets Macon transformed two Macon corridors into places for walking, biking, rolling, dancing, playing, and connecting. From Pleasant Hill, Tattnall Heights, and Beall’s Hill in fall 2025 to Houston Avenue in spring 2026, these events brought thousands of people into the street to experience what a more people-centered Macon can feel like.

At this year’s member party, we had the chance to share updates on what’s happened since last summer, what’s currently taking shape across Macon, and what’s ahead for Bike Walk Macon.

Bike Walk Macon is pleased to announce that Kaylee Pruitt, currently serving as its Education and Engagement Manager, has been selected as the organization’s new Executive Director, effective May 20, 2026.

Streets for All Fest is a weekend-long celebration of biking, walking, and public space in Macon-Bibb County happening March 5-7, 2026 - here’s what you need to know!

Bike Walk Macon is pleased to announce it has received a $66,207.82 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).

The grant will help finance efforts to develop and execute educational programs that expand and promote bicycle and pedestrian safety to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle fatalities, injuries, and crash rates in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia. 

October marks National Pedestrian Safety Month, a reminder that while progress has been made, there’s still important work ahead to ensure everyone in Macon-Bibb can move safely - whether walking, biking, or rolling.

Bike Walk Macon is thrilled to announce the return of Open Streets Macon this fall with two community-powered initiatives that will temporarily transform local roads into car-free public spaces. On Sundays, September 28 and December 7, streets will close to motorized traffic and open to people of all ages and abilities for walking, biking, skating, playing, and connecting with neighbors.
