Macon Bike Walk Month 2025: A Look Back at a Month on the Move
Each May, we celebrate Macon Bike Walk Month - a time to spotlight how biking, walking, and transit make our community healthier, safer, and more connected. This year, we hosted 9 events and shared 7 more from our amazing community partners. Together, we helped Macon-Bibb move with purpose.
Highlights from the Month
We kicked things off with a powerful community screening of "Macon Our Way", a student-produced documentary that dives into how transportation impacts daily life in Macon. The film and post-screening Q&A set the tone for a month full of storytelling, learning, and action. Watch the documentary here.
We took to the streets for our Pastures + Pavement Bike Party, a group ride that blended urban cityscapes with the wide open feels of Macon's industrial side - complete with a honky tonk soundtrack that kept spirits high.
Mid-month, we hosted a Flat Tire Clinic in partnership with Bike Tech Macon, where participants got hands-on experience learning how to fix a flat and ride prepared - an empowering step toward confident cycling.
Later in the month, our Walk 'n' Talk: Architecture Stroll with Historic Macon brought out over 60 participants to explore the city's history and future through its buildings and urban design.
Macon Car Free Day: Small Shifts, Big Impact
On May 30, Macon-Bibb celebrated Car Free Day - and more than 190 residents pledged or participated by walking, biking, riding the bus, attending a meetup, or supporting our local partners.
The Macon Transit Authority offered free bus rides all day, helping more people see what a car-light commute could look like. Our community meetups - from breakfast at Macon Bagels, to lunch at Margaritas, to happy hour at Churchill’s - gave everyone a reason to get out and connect.
Local businesses also stepped up, with 10 shops and restaurants financially supporting our mission and encouraging car-free commuters.
Every step, pedal, and ride helped reduce emissions, save money, and build a more people-friendly city - showing just how impactful one car-free day can be.
Keep the Momentum Going: Become a Member + Join Us June 26!
Become a Bike Walk Macon member and join us for our annual Mobility Maker Member Party on Wednesday, June 26 at The Rose Room. This year’s event is extra special - we’re celebrating 10 years of making Macon-Bibb County more walkable, bikeable, and connected.
Enjoy a relaxed evening of food, drinks, and great company as we reflect on the progress we’ve made and look ahead to what’s next. The party will also feature a silent auction and other fun ways to support our mission (stay tuned — auction items will be announced soon!).
