GOHS AWARDS BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY GRANT TO BIKE WALK MACON

Bike Walk Macon is pleased to announce it has received a $66,207.82 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).

The grant will help finance efforts to develop and execute educational programs that expand and promote bicycle and pedestrian safety to reduce the number of pedestrian and bicycle fatalities, injuries, and crash rates in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia.

"Innovative projects like this are designed with the intent for Georgia and our nation to reach the realistic goal of zero traffic deaths by the middle of this century," said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. "Each life saved on our roads is one less family that will have to live with the pain of losing a loved one whose life was taken from them in a traffic crash that was completely preventable"

"We’re so grateful for the continued support of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety,” said Rachel Umana, Executive Director of Bike Walk Macon. “We’ve been able to reach thousands of people of all ages with programs that make biking and walking safer and more accessible in Macon-Bibb County. This grant allows us to keep expanding those efforts and continue improving streets so everyone can walk and bike safely as part of everyday life in our city.”

The grant year for this award will be October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026.

Bike Walk Macon is a non-profit organization leading the movement to make bicycling and walking a safe, healthy, and convenient option for transportation and recreation for everyone in Macon-Bibb County.
