Join NewTown Macon and Macon-Bibb County leaders on Thursday, August 27 at 9:30 AM for the ribbon cutting of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail's latest completed extension at Amerson River Park. Once you enter the park, take the first left and follow the road down to the parking lot at the Jay Hall North River Access.
What's New: Last year, the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail was expanded at Amerson River Park with several exciting improvements. A newly paved parking lot at the Jay Hall North River Access makes it easier than ever for kayakers and floaters to reach the river, while also giving trail-goers an accessible starting point for exploring the park. From there, the trail stretches 1,500 feet north to the James Hyde Porter Overlook, setting the stage for future expansions of the trail.
Join us as we mark this milestone, celebrate the donors and partners who made it possible, and hear the story behind this latest extension. We'll also have speakers share why trails like this matter for recreation, connection, and community health, along with what's next for the future of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail.
